How long before the work begins?
-From 2 to 3 weeks after the contract is signed.
How long will the work take to complete?
-Siding: Typically 7 to 10 days. Depends on the amount and type of siding, layout of the home, and the weather.
Windows: Typically 2 days. Depends on the number of windows, and the type of windows to be installed
Doors: Typically 1 day. Depends on how many.
Do we need to be at home while the work is being done?
-Siding: It is not necessary while the work is being performed. It is a good idea to be there the day work begins, so if there are any questions they can be addressed.
Windows and Doors: Yes it is preferred because we will need access inside the home.
When replacing siding, is all the old siding removed on the first day?
-No. We work the home in sections trying to take off only what we can replace in a day
Where do you begin to replace the siding on a typical home?
-Typically the garage but it depends on the home.
What is the best siding?
-We recommend Hardiplank® or CertainTeed Monogram® because of its durability, versatility, and warranty.
What colors are available?
-James Hardie ColorPlus has 15 standard colors, pre-primed Hardie Plank can be painted virtually any color. CertainTeed Monogram has over 30 colors
What kind of exterior paint do you use?
-Benjamin Moore Exterior Paints unless you prefer a different brand.
How many years will the paint look fresh before needing to be re-done?
-With a good, stable siding product and a good paint job and proper maintenance; you could get 15 to 20 years if you use premium paint.
How do you keep rain water from getting into the house?
-The siding is designed to take the brunt of the water. The moisture barrier in conjunction with flashing and window tape keep the water from getting into the wall cavity.
Will this protect my house if it floods?
-No, Siding systems are designed to shed the water down the walls. It will not stop rising water from major or localized flooding.
How do you manage the discarded construction debris, and what should I do to prevent flats in my tires and damage to my car?
-Whenever there is heavy construction it is good practice to park as far from the work being preformed as possible. Our crews pick up and clean up every day to keep your home site as neat as possible. They do a nail sweep with magnets around the areas they have been working and they sweep the driveway and other walkways.
How many houses are the crews siding at the same time?
-We schedule our crews so they are on only 1 home at a time.
Do you usually find much damage behind the old siding?
-Yes, Most of it is negligible and requires only minor repairs. About 30% of the time we find water, insect damage, or structural defects which require additional work.
If you do find damage behind the old siding is that still covered or are there any additional charges?
-If it is minor damage, (which is found in most homes), yes. If we get into a large area of damage or defects there may be an additional cost.
Do you work on the weekends?
-Full day on Saturday but if needed on Sunday.
Are all permits and inspections included?
-It is not part of the base price but a salesman can include it in the price.
Do you work at all when it’s raining or extremely cold?
-Yes if the temperature is above 30 degrees. When raining if it is only a light rain or mist and is on a protected area of the home.
How do you install the siding if it is wet?
-When siding is saturated it should not be installed until it has a chance to dry.
I noticed the siding is very dirty in some areas. How do you deal with that for painting?
-When we arrive we start preparing the siding for paint. As we caulk we wipe or clean so the caulk can adhere to the siding. Before we paint we will either wipe down the siding or rinse so the paint will adhere to the siding. If we use water to clean it will only take about an hour on average to dry for painting.
How do I hang things on my new siding?
-If it is something light weight like a temperature sensor simply use a coarse screw. If it is something with some weight, like a hose reel, it will need to be attached to the framing behind the siding. Molly bolt types are not preferred.
Are double paned windows necessary?
-Yes Double paned windows are a requirement for new or replacement windows.
Will new windows stop outside noise?
-They will help reduce outside sounds. But have no affect on some lower frequencies.
How do you replace windows in a brick-faced home?
-They remove all of the glass from the window then they collapse the frame in on itself.
How do you work around plants?
-Because most homes have flower beds right up next to the home we cannot avoid them. So we try to cover, protect, or pull back out of the way as best we can. No matter how careful we are we have to get into the flower beds to work and some damage may occur.
What are your warranties?
-Our standard labor warranty is ? years.
Do I need to do any preparations before the work begins?
-Yes any of the exterior walls that have pictures or shelves; you may want to remove these because we will vibrate the walls. Even if you have something that is not on an outside wall but you are concerned about it I would remove it.
After the new siding is installed, does it need to be primed before it is painted?
-If it is pre primed, no.
